About The Cuban Newspapers found in PARES Database
These databases were compiled by one of our members, Lydia Reyes. She has accumulated thousands of names which appeared in Cuban newspapers from 1814 to 1898. These newspapers appear as parts of files located within PARES. Our heartfelt congratulations and thanks to Lydia for sharing her hard work with us!
IMPORTANT: PARES was redesigned after the creation of this database so that information on the Newspaper Locations Database may not be exactly the same now – The “bloque” part of Lydia’s database seems to be the same but the number may have changed.

About Licenses to Travel to Cuba
Records on boarding licenses of secular and ecclesiastical persons to the island of Cuba, dispatched by the Council of the Indies.
The pages contained in these files can number between 6 through as many as 30 for EACH PERSON. These files represent 3,656 persons that applied for passports to travel to Cuba!
Our president, Mariela Fernandez, reviewed the above files and created a Name Index. Without this index, researchers would have to access each individual folder on PARES, scan for the ancestor’s name and then search for the file. Thank you, Mariela, for such a time saving tool!
